Parenting Support Program (PSP) Bilingual Home Visitor - Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development

The Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development (GUCCHD) was established over 50 years ago to improve the quality of life for all children and youth and their families, especially those with special health care needs, behavioral health challenges or disabilities (including adults with disabilities). It is implementing the Parenting Support Program, a promising practices home visiting model through DC Health, designed to identify, assess, and deliver services to vulnerable families and children to improve their health, education and wellbeing.

Reporting to the PSP Supervisor, the PSP Bilingual Home Visitor recruits and provides home visiting services to potential participants through community outreach and conduct home visiting activities for parents with intellectual disabilities and their children (aged 0 to 5) in duties that include but are not limited to:

Implement PSP program
  • Collaboratively develop a parent education plan tailored to the preferences, need and screening results of each family - to be reviewed on a monthly basis during supervision and updated as the family makes progress
  • Provide a minimum of one visit per month to 15 adults who are pregnant women or who have children up to kindergarten entry in the District of Columbia
  • Administer screening assessments using required screening tools
  • Assist families in navigating interactions with District agencies that support families and children
  • Refer families/children who have positive screen results to social service agencies and other community-based resources as needed
  • Maintain documentation of all virtual, telephonic and in-person home visit activities


Data Collection & Data Entry
  • Administer accurate and timely data collection, and reporting on family demographics, service-utilization, and performance measure data entered in DC Health's electronic portal
  • Collect aggregate data for DC Health to properly track data related to services
  • Complete DC Health elements of all client contacts via contact notes, referrals and screening records
  • Complete weekly DC Health time study worksheets (time sheets)
  • Adhere to all data entry requirements within the prescribed time frames


Training
  • Successfully complete the week-long PAT model Foundational Curriculum 1 & 2 training and certifications (as needed)
  • Attend training and become qualified to administer developmental screenings and other screenings
  • Attend training on the DC Health DCRS Local Quickbase application and the HV Recruitment Portal, designed specifically for the home visiting programs
  • Attend Mandatory Reporting Training
  • Participate in other training, evaluation activities, and continuous quality improvement activities as needed


Retention
  • Maintain positive relationships with parents and participate in activities that make efficient use of resources in the implementation of the PSP program
  • Maintain an average client retention rate of 85%
  • Participate in weekly reflective supervision with supervisor to monitor and establish competencies
  • Participate in biweekly self-care activities as assigned by Supervisor
  • Participate in team meetings
  • Participate in other activities related to home visiting as required


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent education and experience)
  • Work experience with families and young children - preference for experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use
  • Excellent judgement and knowledge of parenting skills, cultural competence in dealing with parents with intellectual disabilities
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of parental skill levels
  • Knowledgeable about community resources in Washington, DC


Preferred qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field of study
  • Strong experience in accurate documentation and data entry
  • Ability to use electronic equipment to input data via laptop computer or a hand held electronic device
  • Proficiency in Spanish or other non-English language
  • Availability and willingness to work evenings when necessary to meet parent availability
