Job Overview

The child care Lead Teacher position provides developmentally appropriate early education and care to children18 months to 5 years old, creates nurturing, safe, and engaging learning environments, builds relationships with families to partner alongside them in the education and care of their children, and works collaboratively with other members of the child care team. The Lead Teacher also complies with policies, practices, and statutory, regulatory, and licensing requirements.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

This position reports to the Director of Georgetown Law Early Learning Center(GLELC).The position also interacts with university families that include student, faculty, and staff parents and enrolled families from the greater metropolitan community.

Georgetown Law Early Learning Center helps to support the University's mission by addressing faculty, staff, and student families' need for the early education and care of their young children. The work mode designation for this position is On-Campus.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Associate's degree in early childhood education or a closely related field, with a least 15 credit hours of early childhood education course work or the equivalent in education and experience per the requirements of Office of the State Superintendent of Education(OSSE).
  • One year or more supervised experience in a high quality, licensed child development center.
  • Work collaboratively in a team and independently; build positive relationships; communicate clearly and effectively; demonstrate flexibility and reliability; exhibit respect, empathy, and care for the children and their families, colleagues, and other members of Georgetown University and the surrounding community.
  • Criminal background check clearance, child protection registry clearance, drug and alcohol testing clearance, and any other requirements outlined by OSSE, Georgetown University, and relevant regulations.\
  • Must be able to: Lift and carry up to 40 pounds .Use a wide range of motion, including but not limited to, sitting down and standing up with children, getting up off of and down onto the floor, moving quickly, walking, running, hopping, dancing, pushing, pulling, and bending. Work at least two hours daily outside in temperatures between 32and 90 degrees in a variety of weather conditions such as, sunny, cloudy, overcast, and ground conditions that are dry, damp, wet, or snowy.
  • Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification, trainings, and other certification, are required within 30 days of employment.

Please note: The District of Columbia's Office of the State Superintendent of Education requires COVID-19 vaccination for employment in this position, reference Mayor's Order 2021-109 -COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement for Adults Regularly in Schools or Child Care Facilities and for Student-Athletes.

Preferred qualifications for employment
  • Bachelor's or more advanced degree in early childhood education.
  • Two or more years as a lead teacher in a licensed child development center.
  • Two or more years of experience in the education and care of children ages 18 months-3 years old.
  • Experience conducting child observations and documenting children's growth and development.
  • Experience implementing the Conscious Discipline approach.
  • Current Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills.
